I hope you had a fantastic 2016/17 season with AFC Portchester and are now enjoying a break from football, albeit sprinkled with a tournament or two! Speaking of tournaments, this year’s home one was our biggest and, many have said, best run ever. Thanks to all who volunteered, supported, sponsored or played. Special thanks to Ian Corless, who co-ordinated this mammoth event superbly.

We’ve now had the Youth Annual General Meeting and I’m pleased to say that the core of the committee has remained in place. There was one departure: Michael Lovatt has stepped down as Youth Development Officer and is succeeded by Jimmy Chainey in this role. We also added some new roles:

Media Secretary, responsible for our website, social media, online memberships etc which is being filled by Darren Lambe
Tournament Secretary (which does what it says on the tin), a job ably done this year by Ian Corless and now confirmed as a committee position
Assistant Club Secretary, helping Andy Girling continue the excellent job he does in liaising with leagues and the FA. Sophie Dugan has volunteered to fill this role, looking mainly after our burgeoning girls’ section

The existing and returning committee members are:

Andy Girling – Club Secretary
Jim Walker – Treasurer
Brad Tuppen – Child Welfare Officer
Rich Peterson – Youth Soccer Co-ordinator
Emma Jehu – Mini Soccer Co-ordinator

It’s worth remembering here that ALL committee positions are entirely voluntary, so the fact that these people give up their time to make sure the club runs so smoothly is something I’m extremely grateful for. Buy them a drink if you see them around Portchester…

The annual accounts show that the Youth section is in great health, financially, and our first season of centralised Direct Debit subscriptions has been a complete success. Thanks to our Jim for all his efforts. Again – worth a reminder that our accounts are entirely separate from the adult section of the club. All of your monthly subs go back into Youth football.

We are now well into the preparations for the 2017/18 season which will kick off in early September, with league entries and FA affiliations all underway. If you’ve completed one of our online membership forms, you will receive a membership card for the club. The card entitles one adult per Youth member to free entry to First Team and Reserve Team matches, as well as discounts at the bar – so keep it safe! We’ll give your card to your son or daughter’s manager to distribute over the next few weeks.

As always, if you have any questions or suggestions I’d love to hear them.

Otherwise, enjoy your summer and we’ll see you in September!

Phil Jeynes
Youth Chairman
